Frequently Asked Questions

“I’ve seen issues on the news about Greek Life and its potential issues with substance abuse. Is this what living in Lambda Chi Alpha is?”

Of course not! We as a brotherhood take the responsibility and safety of our members first and foremost. While opportunities for all college students to choose wisely and poorly exists, living at Lambda Chi provides you with over 50 members who will always be supportive and will help educate to make sure if a member makes the decision to consume alcohol, they are responsible while doing so. We usually have 2-3 professional speakers a semester to come and educate our members on how to be safe if they choose to drink as well as other topics pertaining to physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Plenty of our members decide not to drink; and they are never excluded from any activity, and feel comfortable and confident in their decision.

“What about hazing or pledging"?”

Lambda Chi Alpha took a huge step nationally in 1972 when they abolished the system of pledgeship in our fraternity and adopted the associate member program. With this new program came all the rights, responsibilities and privileges that every member of our fraternity are blessed with and enjoy to this day. This means associates can participate and vote in chapter meetings, wear letters from day one, and even hold officer positions on the High Zeta (in fact, for our 2023 High Zeta, 4 associate members were elected to hold offices). The active brothers at Alpha-Delta take this seriously and members will never be asked to do anything they are not comfortable with.

“Why should I consider Greek Life at Missouri S&T?”

Missouri S&T is home to 24 recognized fraternities and sororities that make up ~25% of our undergraduate student population. The Office of Student Involvement provides support for the fraternity and sorority community through recruitment, chapter management efforts, safety enhancement, and program development. Missouri S&T fraternities and sororities strive for academic excellence and are consistently above the Missouri S&T all student GPA. They are also dedicated to service and raise over $125,000 annually toward philanthropies. The Greek community at S&T is a very different and unique atmosphere than other campuses; to put it simply, we’re all one big family made of separate houses. We push each other to excel in everything we do so our Greek system can continue to thrive. We may challenge each other philanthropically, academically, and through our numerous Intramural sports; but we are all interwoven and have opportunities to make friendships and relationships to last well after your college days.

“So why Lambda Chi Alpha specifically? Why should I join?”

Lambda Chi Alpha is about looking for those special men that want to become great contributors to the world.  We work to create true brothers through education, leadership and friendships. At S&T, we are a motivated and strong house because of our reputation of creating such welcoming and safe environment for everyone we come in contact with and helping them in their journey to become productive men of society. Any fraternity is going to try to convince you why their fraternity is for you, but we believe we do it best with our pillars of belonging, character, and competence

“You sold me! How do I go about joining?”

Recruitment at S&T for fraternities is very simple! We operate on an informal recruitment process in which there is no designated “rush” event. The most common way to meet current members and tour our chapter house is you come for your A&R Day, we will have a table set up; feel free to walk up and introduce yourself! After getting a tour of our chapter house, we will let you know of details for recruitment events during the summer in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas. These are great opportunities to meet more members and help solidify your decision. You might also receive a bid card, in which all we need is from you is your signature. Once you sign and hand it back to us, you are officially a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and can move into the chapter house on Move-In Day before O-Week!

If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact our Recruitment Chair, Caiden Zeither : (Phone number :(314) 882-8620, email: cmzw67@mst.edu); or our President, Kaden Counts (Phone Number: (417) 350-3506, email: akcounts@mst.edu).

“Wait, so even freshmen can move into the chapter house during their first semester?”

Yes! The cost of living in the house is on average 50% cheaper than the average cost of living in a residential hall with a meal plan. This cost includes room, board, all amenities, parking, dues, and a meal plan. The meal plan includes 9 meals during the week (2 meals Monday - Thursday; and lunch on Friday). The house is also a short walk to campus. By allowing our new members to move into the Chapter House, they have more time to start building relationships with the brothers of Lambda Chi.
